Traffic/Moving Violations

It's not unusual for one to receive a citation for speeding or some other traffic offense in North Carolina. Most people do not challenge tickets, because they are unaware of the full implications of having traffic violations on their record. In North Carolina, driving privileges are assessed on a point system. Insurance companies use a similar point system in combination with other factors like age, region, and state guidelines to determine insurance rates. Over time, accumulated points can cause increased premiums and/or revoked driving privileges. See the table below for violation point penalties.

Insurance points are assessed for the above violations and other incidences such as motor vehicle accidents, vehicular manslaughter, and highway racing.
